We moved to Canada
I’m one week in as I type this.
I’ve felt it's important to put it somewhere and here, is where I’ll put it!
We have been planning this move for over 5 years. All my tools and methods have gone into it.
I’m on my own ‘Koolaid’ as they say.
Setting goals, creating productive discipline, dealing with the emotions as they come up.
It’s all been part of this journey, as you can imagine.
But the surprising, perfectly timed lesson… that’s what its all about… anyway, for me that was learnt on the tarmac, in the plane, stuck… waiting for our gate to be free so we could disembark.
Mel has been in the UK for 17 years. We’ve been planning this for 5. All the work, all the toil, all the heartache, all the joy. Stuck behind a 45 minute delay for our gate…
And that’s where I learnt just how much you can gain from that excruitiating moment before you get what you want.
When I was a kid, I used to run wild and push myself to the very limit of being hungry or thirsty. I’d run home, feeling close to death!! I would run the tap and watch the water fill a glass. I would then stand there looking into the glass.. I now know what I was doing. Just being so thankful for all I have done to get to this moment, the pressure, the pain and the suffering all so worth it. And being ok with it gives me the opportunity to sit in it, not waste the feelings of relief that will flood over me once we get our bags, our dog and start our new life.. finally!
What I’m saying is.. don’t forget what you have done just to get here. Don’t let next, rob joy from now. Even if it’s shit. Even if it's so painful your skin crawls. Aren’t you lucky to feel all that?
Getting good at finding joy even now, that lesson lasts for when it comes again. The feeling of lack- unfairness, no way forward, despair. Nah- you know it won’t last but wanting it to be over is exactly what will make it last longer then it needs too. Not in reality.. time/nature.. but in your head. Where pain elongates time and all feels so un natural.
Now drink the water. Take a breath.. and go again.
How lucky we are.
